Being Aware of Our Surroundings

This article from CNN isn't necessarily agenda pushing, but is an important topic to give attention to. So I'll start by saying that the headline of this article caught my eye because I had believed it to be biased. The headline sounded charged and was this:

British PM to Russia: "We know what you are doing"

This headline even had me going, "what's Russia doing?" But with an obviously negative expectation - which it lived up to.

The article is written rather objectively relying very heavily on both direct and indirect quotes to explain the accusations of Russia's fake news meddling by Theresa May in not only the U.S. 2016 Presidential Elections, but voting for Brexit and other Western democracy's voting.

(May speaks on Russia at 4 min 45 seconds)

Th reason I wanted to point this article out was because of how important it is to understand and be aware of politics internationally. What happens outside of our borders always has a potential to affect what happens within them.

Tensions tightening between the U.K. and Russia has the potential to have a direct affect on the United States. Based on the fact the U.S. is allied with the U.K. and has been trying to build better relations with Russia since the Cold War. But a dispute between them could put the US and other allied nations on either side in the middle.

If we recall from history, the first and second World Wars were the products of growing international tensions. While I'm not saying that the current tensions between nations of the world (examples being the controversy in the West over Russia, North Korea, and Iran) are great enough to constitute a World War, I am saying that remaining aware of other actions in the world are important to be mindful of for the implications they may bring to us.

  1. It is extremely interesting to take a look at various headlines (especially ones that deal with foreign countries). It seems that many of the headlines have the intention of persuading the reader to believe in whichever opinion. I believe that many individuals do not keep up with foreign -related issues unless it has directly affected their lives. I agree that people should be more inclusive with their news media. I also agree that individuals need to be conscious in the biased habits of news outlets.

  2. Hello,

This is a very interesting blog post. I agree that this is an important topic that we need to pay attention to. It does not seem like world peace is around the corner, so American need to remember to focus on international news topics as well as national ones because they both affect us. It seems as if most individuals lack in trying to keep up with foreign related issues and in the end this could lead to negative effects.
