Everyone Should Be Allowed Their Own Voice

Image
Photo by  Nancy Pelosi Nancy Pelosi caught a lot of heat this Sunday from CNN for her reservations on condemning Conyers. The reason I wanted to highlight this article was because the word usage and lay out does seem very agenda focused from CNN. Nancy Pelosi should be allowed to have her reservations. She should be blasted in an article saying that she "refuses" to condemn a person without seeing everything. Just because she won't attack someone else doesn't mean she herself should be attacked. The headline is: PELOSI REFUSES TO HIT CONYERS ON SEXUAL HARASSMENT ALLEGATIONS, CALLS HIM 'ICON' Photo by  Emily Morter The headline hits Pelosi making it seem as though she's condoning sexual embarrassment and then quotes her when she said Conyers is an icon. BUT, the way the quote is done in the headline makes it seem extremely judgmental and vindictive. Something comparable would probably be something like seeing a headline for the rapper Em...

Being Aware of Our Surroundings

Image
Photo by Chris Lawton This article from CNN isn't necessarily agenda pushing, but is an important topic to give attention to.  So I'll start by saying that the headline of this article caught my eye because I had believed it to be biased. The headline sounded charged and was this:  British PM to Russia: "We know what you are doing" This headline even had me going, "what's Russia doing?" But with an obviously negative expectation - which it lived up to.  The article is written rather objectively relying very heavily on both direct and indirect quotes to explain the accusations of Russia's fake news meddling by Theresa May in not only the U.S. 2016 Presidential Elections, but voting for Brexit and other Western democracy's voting.  (May speaks on Russia at 4 min 45 seconds) Th reason I wanted to point this article out was because of how important it is to understand and be aware of politics internationally. What happens...

A Little Too Generalized Fox

Image
Photo by Georgia Democrats via Flickr This Wednesday morning, Fox News published an article about the DNC's search for a diverse staff to fill some of their open tech positions. While I agree that singling out "cisgender white males" as one's who should not apply is wrong. I do believe that Fox has taken a way too aggressive tone with such a sensitive topic. Photo by guyblade via Flickr By the title, "DNC: White men shouldn't apply for tech jobs," Fox is trying to gauge an aggravated response from their white male readers. They're trying to lump every single recruiter along with this one manager, Madeleine Leader, as if no tech jobs are for white men - further stirring racial tensions. But it's simply not true. It's wrong to make a headline that tries to generalize a single situation just to further feed their emotional viewers. And by doing so, Fox is pushing their own agenda. While this email showing a hiring bias is newsw...

Sorry, But Legislation Is Slow. Period.

Image
Photo by Christopher Burns Today, an article from CNN discussing the continued legality of bump stocks was discussed by Daniella Diaz. The title, " A month after the Las Vegas shooting, there's still no bump stock regulation. "  Now, I'm all for bump stock regulation, but to believe congress would act so quickly is absolutely absurd. For an example, we can see how fast congress acts on legislation with this site here:  https://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/statistics In 2017 so far, our 115th Congress has been sitting on 6,645 different pieces of legislation. They have enacted 1% of those, passed 4%, and voted on 5%. Taking this into account, as quickly as it should happen, it's naive to expect any immediate action from Congress. Below is an animated PBS video of how a bill becomes a law. If you do not wish to see the video, then here's the spoiler: It's a rather lengthy process. With that said, Diaz is fair asking why the ATF has yet to i...

Walter White Speaks On Trump

Image
I'd like to take a look at a lesser known news source that isn't quite in the running with Fox, CNN, or the Washington Post for a change. Photo by Tom Conger via Flickr The front page of RedState today was an article covering Bryan Cranston responding to those wishing President Trump to fail. The article is very to the point with objective writing reporting what Bryan Cranston and Nicole Kidman's opinions on all the resentment towards Trump.  The only lack of objectivity that I see with this article is at the very end when the author, Andrea Ruth inserts her own opinion.  Photo is a personal screen shot from redstate.com Now, after analyzing the journalistic writing. I'd like to look at the headline for this article and placement. The headline itself is trying to get a response from Bryan Cranston fans who might be in support of Trump's failure/impeachment - especially considering his sturdy foothold in entertainment following the massive s...

Really? Robert Mueller? Really? (Insert Exaggerated Sarcasm)

Image
Photo by usembassytallin via Flickr Today, CNN's front page boasted the following headline: This photo is a personal Screen Shot of cnn.com taken on 10.30.2017 After reading the article, I'm not sure if I would disagree with Joan Biskupic. But, I do not agree with such a boastful and emotionally swaying article. It's widely agreed that CNN leans to the left side of the political spectrum, but recently the hunt on President Trump has taken an angry and vindictive emotional tone from CNN. The artistic rendering of Mueller in front of the American flag adds to the "hunt" theme of the article and CNN's recent overtones. The article itself isn't that bias, which can be read here , but does have one point that I would argue has Biskupic inserting her opinion. She says mid way through: "In the documents released Monday, evidence is laid out in attention-getting detail, with tantalizing quotes ("Great work," a campaign supervisor t...

Standing Ovation For CNN's Chirs Cillizza

Image
Today, Chris Cillizza, an analyst at CNN, criticized President Trump's tweets in which he applauds himself for having standing ovations in this very sarcastic article . Photo by Miller Center via Flickr.com In all honesty, the article was a bit funny, but there's one issue I have with the presentation of this incredibly sarcastic, Trump-mocking article. It was listed under " Latest News"  in CNN's right hand navigation bar of their CNN Politics page. The above photo is a screen shot from CNN I have no problem with an opinion piece, but as I have pointed out in other blog posts, I do not like people being enticed into an opinion piece under the false belief of objective news. This article is kind of funny, but for a less digital literate and/or gullible individual, they very well could read this bias article taking it as legitimate news that other people and news sources believe. Additionally, it gives them this one skewed viewpoint (as true or hi...
